From Bradford UNESCO City of Film, we write about photography, film and television, and daily life in a national museum.
Are you a creative illustrator or graphic designer? Do you have an itch to draw all day long? Do you dream of rebranding some of the world’s most recognised brands? If this sounds like you then we want to get to know you!
For the first time ever, we’d like to offer you the chance to design the main identity image for the Bradford International Film Festival and win a £500 fee to produce it.
Now in its 19th year, Bradford International Film Festival (BIFF), in partnership with Virgin Media, remains one of the most anticipated events in the UK film calendar. In its 18 editions to date, BIFF has presented hundreds of new and classic films, and included premieres, definitive retrospectives, and an array of special guests. In the past we’ve had the festival identity in all forms; photographic, graphic and illustrated.
This year we want to throw it over to you and ask you to come up with a brand new identity. Last year we asked illustrator MutantHands to create the ident and he accepted the challenge and did us proud but now we must say goodbye to the 2012 identity and look forward to BIFF 2013 and a sparkling new identity which could be designed by you.
Update: We’ve extended the deadline to 12.00 on Friday 28th September 2012. For your chance to produce the BIFF 2013 identity have a look at the terms and conditions and brief for full details on how to enter.

We look forward to receiving your entries.
That’s a lot of work for £500. Initial sketches with proposal. Working on a final design which will then most likely have feedback and changes to be made. And then the work is also used across different media. Plus it starts as spec work!
Dan, exactly my thoughts.
graphic design is getting so cheap those days…does it surprise you?
Thank you for your comments. We have aimed this competition at designers with less than 3 years’ industry experience or students of Art and Design. It is an opportunity to design an identity for a well established festival, with support from the National Media Museum’s design team to realise the design across all print. The prize for winning this competition will be awarded to the design or concept we feel best fits the brief – full details are in the terms and conditions.
Competition is a good idea to bring out the creative talent of students.
